Hearing Aids: A Promising Solution to Reduce Dementia Risk

A large clinical trial has found that the use of hearing aids can reduce the risk of dementia by 48% among individuals at a higher risk of developing the condition. The study, which is the largest of its kind, adds to the growing body of research linking hearing loss to cognitive decline. The trial involved participants aged 70 to 84 with untreated mild to moderate hearing loss and no substantial cognitive impairment. Those who received a three-year intervention that included hearing aids and counseling experienced a significant reduction in cognitive decline. The findings highlight the importance of addressing hearing loss as a potential strategy for preventing dementia.
