Measles Resurgence: First Case in Illinois Since 2019 Confirmed

The first case of measles in Illinois since 2019 has been confirmed in Cook County. The individual involved was unvaccinated and had international exposure. The Illinois Department of Public Health emphasized the importance of measles vaccination, stating that most people are routinely vaccinated in childhood and not at high risk. Symptoms of measles include rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, and red, watery eyes. The disease can cause serious complications and is easily spread through the air or contact with infected mucus or saliva. The IDPH urged individuals to ensure they and their family members are up-to-date on measles/mumps/rubella (MMR) vaccine and other age-appropriate immunizations.
