Respiratory Illnesses Surge Across U.S. as Flu Season Intensifies

U.S. health officials have reported an increase in flu cases, while RSV lung infections, particularly affecting children and older individuals, may be peaking. However, COVID-19 continues to be the leading cause of hospitalizations and deaths among respiratory illnesses. The CDC is investigating pneumonia outbreaks in children in two states but has found no evidence of anything unusual. Currently, 11 states are reporting high levels of flu-like illnesses, mostly in the South and Southwest. RSV infections have surged in some areas but are expected to reach their peak soon. These respiratory illnesses, including pneumonia, can be caused by various viruses and bacteria, including COVID-19, the flu, and RSV.
