Respiratory Viruses Surge in California with Decreased Hospitalizations

COVID-19 and influenza hospitalizations are increasing in California post-Thanksgiving, although at a lower rate compared to last year. The California Department of Public Health has replaced the COVID-19 dashboard with a new respiratory virus dashboard, indicating COVID-19's transition to an endemic virus. Hospitalizations for COVID-19 are rising but remain lower than last winter's peak, while hospital admissions for influenza are significantly lower than late 2022. The percentage of emergency room visits for Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is also increasing.
