Thanksgiving's Infectious Disease Forecast Raises Concerns

As Americans prepare for Thanksgiving, respiratory viruses such as the flu and COVID-19 are on the rise, posing a risk for mass travel and family gatherings. Flu activity is increasing in most of the country, with some states already experiencing high levels of influenza-like illnesses. COVID-19 activity is picking up in two regions, while the remaining eight regions are seeing plateauing or slightly declining numbers. Additionally, RSV transmission is high nationwide. Health officials advise taking standard precautions, including getting vaccinated, wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and ensuring proper ventilation. The CDC is offering four additional free at-home COVID-19 tests for every US household.
