Whooping Cough Cases Surge Across Multiple States

Whooping cough cases are rising in Michigan, with 830 confirmed or probable cases reported as of late October, up from 473 earlier in the month. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is urging vaccinations to combat the spread of pertussis, which is seeing increased cases nationally as well. Pertussis symptoms can resemble a cold initially but progress to severe coughing fits. Vaccination remains the primary defense, though immunity can wane over time, making booster shots important. The CDC advises adults to get a booster every 10 years.
