Eastern European Countries Unite to Extend Ban on Ukrainian Grain Imports

Poland, Hungary, and Slovakia have decided to extend their ban on Ukrainian grain imports, defying the European Union's plans to suspend the ban. The temporary measure was initially implemented to protect farmers in these countries from being undercut by cheap Ukrainian grain. Despite Ukraine's joy over the EU's decision, the Polish Prime Minister, Mateusz Morawiecki, stated that they would extend the ban in the interest of Polish farmers. Hungary and Slovakia also announced their intentions to retain the ban, citing concerns about flooding markets and the need to safeguard their domestic markets. The move may anger EU officials who called for countries to refrain from unilateral measures.
