UAW Expands Autoworker Strike, Targets Ford and GM Plants

The United Auto Workers (UAW) union has expanded its strike against Ford and General Motors (GM), with an additional 7,000 workers walking off the job at a GM plant in Lansing, Michigan, and a Ford plant in Chicago. This brings the total number of striking autoworkers to 25,000, or 17% of the UAW's membership. The UAW is demanding a 36% pay increase, annual cost-of-living adjustments, pension benefits for all employees, greater job security, restrictions on the use of temporary workers, and a four-day work week. Negotiations are ongoing, but the automakers have been accused of refusing to make meaningful progress at the bargaining table.
