Pentagon Implements Stricter Controls on Classified Information Following Leaks

The Pentagon plans to implement tighter controls on classified information following an alleged leak incident in which an airman was arrested for posting classified documents on Discord. A 45-day review found that ambiguous policies and inconsistencies in implementing them contributed to the breach. The new measures include the appointment of "Top Secret Control Officers," the establishment of an office for insider threats, and the implementation of electronic device detection systems in classified work areas. The leak is considered the most serious security breach since the WikiLeaks incident in 2010. The indicted airman faces up to 10 years in prison for each charge of unauthorized retention and transmission of national defense information.
