Leominster, MA: Emergency Declared as Flash Flooding Ravages City

The city of Leominster in Massachusetts has declared a state of emergency and evacuated residents after experiencing "catastrophic" flash flooding caused by torrential downpours. Between six and nine inches of rain fell in northeastern Worcester County, prompting a flash flood warning. Surrounding towns were also at risk of flash flooding. The National Weather Service warned of an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation, urging residents to seek higher ground and avoid travel unless necessary. The flooding caused damage to homes, roads, and vehicles, and disrupted commuter rail lines. Governor Maura Healey described the flooding as catastrophic and pledged support for rescue and cleanup efforts.
