Michigan Storms Leave Destruction in Their Wake: Tornadoes, Lightning, and Fallen Trees

Two tornadoes touched down in Michigan as severe storms with strong winds caused widespread damage, downing trees, tearing off roofs, and leaving hundreds of thousands without power. Five people were killed, including an 84-year-old woman who was struck by a falling tree. The storms also caused flooding and forced municipalities to discharge untreated wastewater into waterways. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer declared a state of emergency for Wayne and Monroe counties, while Wayne County Executive Warren Evans declared a state of emergency for the county. Parts of Ohio were also affected, with a tornado causing severe damage in Cleveland.
