Chinese Citizens Sue Florida Over Property Ownership Ban

Chinese Floridians and a real estate brokerage firm are suing the state in federal court over a recently-signed Gov. Ron DeSantis policy they say puts “draconian restrictions” on people from China. The legislation unfairly restricts most Chinese citizens from purchasing homes in the state. The bill prevents the foreign countries of concern and their officers from buying farmland as well as property within 10 miles of a military installation or critical infrastructure facility. The Chinese Floridians suing are Yifan Shen, Zhiming Xu, Xinxi Wang and Yongxin Liu, all citizens of China who are lawfully living in Florida. They are joined by Multi-Choice Realty, LLC, a state real estate brokerage firm that primarily serves Chinese clients.
