Congress Races Against Time to Address Immigration, Ukraine Funding, and Border Security

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer announced the shift, stating that negotiations on the national security supplemental have made good progress. Senate Republicans believe an immigration deal is crucial for the passage of aid to Ukraine and Israel. The Senate hopes to reach a framework agreement and act on the supplemental as soon as possible, but the negotiators have yet to agree on a framework. The House is expected to return on January 9, and House Speaker Mike Johnson criticized the Senate for not passing the Republican border and immigration package.
