The advisory calls on travelers nationwide to forgo visiting Florida, citing the state's devaluation and marginalization of African Americans, people of color, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Florida's economy heavily relies on tourism, with an estimated 137.6 million people visiting the state in 2022. Governor DeSantis and his administration have been accused of a "dereliction of duty" for failing to teach an accurate representation of Black American history and for restricting diversity, equity, and inclusion programs in Florida schools.
