Ohio's 2023 elections deliver major victory for abortion rights

Democrats and supporters of abortion rights achieved victories in the 2023 elections, winning key legislative and gubernatorial races in Virginia and Kentucky. Ohioans voted to protect abortion rights in their state constitution, effectively ending a law that prohibited abortion after six weeks with no exceptions for rape or incest. Historic wins were also seen in Philadelphia, where Cherelle Parker became the city's first woman and first Black woman mayor, and in Rhode Island, where Gabe Amo became the state's first Black person to represent it in Congress.
