Supreme Court Recusal: Clarence Thomas Steps Back as Trump Lawyer's Appeal Rejected

Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas recused himself from considering an appeal by former Trump lawyer John Eastman regarding the release of his emails to the House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. This marks the first time Thomas has removed himself from a case related to the insurrection. The court declined to hear the case, but did not provide an explanation for Thomas' recusal. Eastman, a former law clerk for Thomas, had some of his emails with Thomas' wife turned over to the committee. Thomas is currently facing scrutiny over his financial ties to a conservative billionaire and his wife's involvement in efforts to keep Trump in power after the 2020 election.
