Trump clashes with Pope Leo over politics after 60 Minutes spotlight
TL;DR
President Trump told CBS News that Pope Leo is 'wrong on the issues' and should stay out of politics after a 60 Minutes segment highlighted the pontiff’s stance on immigration and Iran, while noting he has no plans to call the pope. Trump also defended a now-deleted Truth Social image depicting him in a Jesus-like role and claimed he’s done more for the Catholic Church than any recent president. Pope Leo, meanwhile, said religious leadership isn’t politics and reiterated the Gospel message, calling himself a peacemaker.
