Trump Withdraws Casey Means as Surgeon General Nominee, Nominates Nicole Saphier

President Donald Trump pulled Casey Means’s nomination to be the US surgeon general after opposition from Republicans (including Sen. Bill Cassidy) and concerns raised during her confirmation hearing about vaccines and her residency decision. He then nominated radiologist Dr. Nicole Saphier, a Fox News contributor and Memorial Sloan Kettering Breast Imaging director, who Trump praised as a “STAR physician” and capable communicator; Saphier also has a role on a CDC advisory committee and authored a health-focused book.
