Trump's Lawsuit Against New York Times Dismissed, Legal Fees Ordered

A judge has dismissed a $100m lawsuit filed by former US President Donald Trump against the New York Times and his estranged niece, Mary Trump, accusing them of "an insidious plot" to obtain his tax records. The lawsuit related to a Pulitzer Prize-winning series on Mr Trump's financial affairs. The judge said the claims in the lawsuit "fail as a matter of constitutional law" and ordered Mr Trump to pay the legal costs for the newspaper and the three reporters listed as defendants. The judge also reaffirmed that the press is protected when it engages in routine newsgathering.
