Ukraine is cracking down on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC), which it accuses of being under Moscow's influence, following Russia's invasion. The UOC denies the allegations and says it has seen no evidence of wrongdoing by its clergy. However, polls show Ukrainians turning their back on the church in droves. The government is encouraging people to sever all ties with Russia, including deep-rooted relationships that go back centuries. Many parishes are switching to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU), formed in 2019 and backed by the government. The dispute is not over doctrinal differences but national loyalty.
