WSJ Reporter Evan Gershkovich Designated as Wrongfully Detained by US

The US State Department has officially designated Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich as wrongfully detained by Russia, stating that the espionage charges against him are baseless. Gershkovich's case will now be handled at the State Department through the Office of the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs. The US government will provide all appropriate support to Gershkovich and his family and call for the Russian Federation to immediately release him and Paul Whelan, who has also been declared wrongfully detained.
