Asteroid 2023 DZ2 and other near-Earth flybys to watch out for.

The near-Earth asteroid 2023 DZ2, estimated to be 140 to 310 feet wide, will pass within 107,500 miles of Earth on March 25. While a telescope is needed to see it firsthand, the Virtual Telescope Project will provide a free livestream of the event starting at 7:30 p.m. EDT. Though there is no chance of impact, the flyby provides a rare opportunity for scientists to learn more about relatively large asteroids. The International Asteroid Warning Network is using this close approach to learn as much as possible about 2023 DZ2 in a short time period, good practice for planetary defense in the future if a potential asteroid threat were ever discovered.
