Michigan State Takes Steps to Terminate Coach Mel Tucker

Michigan State University has initiated the process of firing head football coach Mel Tucker for cause, citing a "body of undisputed evidence of misconduct." Tucker has been suspended without pay following sexual harassment allegations, including claims made by sexual assault awareness speaker Brenda Tracy. The university delivered a letter detailing the alleged "unprofessional and unethical behavior" to Tucker, who has seven days to dispute the grounds for termination. Longtime assistant Harlon Barnett has been named interim coach, with former coach Mark Dantonio serving as a consultant. The university's hearing to determine if Tucker violated the relationship violence and sexual misconduct policy will proceed, scheduled for October 5 and 6.
