OpenAI and Musk Clash Over For-Profit Control

OpenAI has responded to Elon Musk's lawsuit, which accuses the company of abandoning its nonprofit mission, by releasing emails and texts suggesting Musk initially supported a for-profit model. OpenAI claims Musk wanted majority control and proposed merging with a hardware startup or spinning into Tesla, both of which were rejected. Musk later formed xAI, which competes with OpenAI. Musk's lawsuit also alleges OpenAI is blocking funding to xAI and illegally sharing resources with Microsoft. OpenAI is under pressure to complete its transition to a for-profit entity.
