Restrictions Imposed on Biden Officials' Contact with Social Media Firms

A federal judge has ruled that the Biden administration must limit its communications with social media companies regarding the moderation of content containing protected free speech. The ruling comes after Republican attorneys general accused officials of pressuring platforms to address posts on topics such as Covid-19 policies and election security. The judge, appointed by former President Donald Trump, stated that the plaintiffs presented substantial evidence supporting their claims and described the government's role as resembling an Orwellian "Ministry of Truth." The ruling restricts communications by government agencies and officials but allows exceptions for national security and criminal activity warnings. Social media platforms, including Google-owned YouTube, Twitter, and Meta (formerly Facebook and Instagram), have not yet responded to requests for comment.
