Alex Eala defeated Jessica Pegula in the Washington Open final after rain delayed the finish, capturing her first WTA title. Pegula had studied Eala’s slower serve and even practiced against one, but her return game slipped as Eala played for percentage. Pegula won only about 30% of return points and only 10 points against Eala’s serve in the second and third sets combined, compared with 11 in the first.
