Fort Hood-area Apache crash leaves two soldiers dead, sparking Texas fire

An Army AH-64 Apache helicopter based at Fort Hood crashed in Salado, Texas, around 1:30 p.m., killing two soldiers and igniting a large field fire. Local responders, military personnel and law enforcement responded to the scene, and the Fort Hood Criminal Investigation Division is leading the investigation. The two soldiers were transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and their identities were being withheld for 24 hours after notification of next of kin.
