Hurricane Lala Fizzles to Tropical Storm, But Hawaii Faces Drenching Floods

Hurricane Lala weakened to a tropical storm as it skimmed Hawaii’s Big Island, but brought torrential rain and strong winds that triggered flash floods, knocked out power to hundreds of thousands, prompted search-and-rescue efforts and shelter openings, and left at least one death as authorities warned of ongoing flood and weather threats across the islands.
