Animal Shelter Experiences First Case of Alcoholic Dog Withdrawal

A two-year-old Labrador mix named Coco was brought to the Woodside Animal Rescue Trust in the UK after their owner died. Coco had an alcohol dependency issue and suffered from canine alcohol withdrawal, which is a first for the shelter. Coco spent four weeks sedated to help his withdrawal symptoms and reduce the risk of further fits. The pooch was kept out of the main kennels with the other animals and instead stayed “in a more homey environment” at the trust’s Dunroamin Unit. Coco is now almost fully recovered and is “well on his way to a full recovery.”
