Former Principal of Australian Jewish School Sentenced to 15 Years for Child Sex Abuse

Malka Leifer, a former principal of an Australian Jewish school, has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sexually abusing two students between 2004 and 2007. Leifer, who was convicted of 18 out of 27 charges, including six counts of rape, must serve at least 11 years and six months before being considered for early release. After her release, she is expected to be deported to Israel. The victims, Dassi Erlich and Elly Sapper, who have chosen to identify themselves, welcomed the sentence and expressed hope for healing. Leifer, who maintains her innocence, showed no remorse during the sentencing. The battle to extradite her from Israel began in 2014, with her lawyers arguing that she was mentally unfit to stand trial.
