Life Sentence for Ex-New York Resident Convicted of Assisting ISIS

Mirsad Kandic, a Kosovo native and former New York resident, has been sentenced to life in prison for his involvement with ISIS. Kandic was found guilty of conspiracy and providing material support to the terrorist group, including recruiting and trafficking fighters, spreading propaganda, and controlling pro-ISIS Twitter accounts. He played a role in recruiting an Australian teenager who later became a suicide bomber. Prosecutors described Kandic as a "merchant of death and destruction" and the judge condemned his extreme behavior. Kandic, who had lived in the United States, managed to travel to ISIS territory despite being on a no-fly list.
