Oscar Pistorius denied parole for killing Reeva Steenkamp, victim's family opposes release.

Former Olympic and Paralympic runner Oscar Pistorius has been denied parole and will remain in prison for at least another 16 months for the 2013 murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. The parole board cited a clarification on Pistorius' sentence issued by South Africa's Supreme Court of Appeal. Pistorius' lawyers had argued that he was eligible for parole because he had served the required portion of time in jail from late 2014 after his culpable homicide conviction. Pistorius will be able to apply for parole again in August 2024.
