Record Number of Indian Students Boost International Enrollment at U.S. Colleges

The number of international students at U.S. colleges and universities has experienced its fastest growth rate in over 40 years, with a surge in students from India and other South Asian countries. According to a report, there were 1,057,188 international students in the U.S. higher education system during the 2022-23 school year, a nearly 12 percent increase from the previous year. India set a record with 268,923 students, up 35 percent. The report also highlights the rebound of international higher education following the pandemic, with nearly 300,000 newly enrolled international students in 2022-23. These students contribute significant revenue to institutions and showcase the global prestige of U.S. education.
