"Rising Trend: Hate Crimes at Schools Doubled in 2022, FBI Reports"

The number of reported hate crimes in elementary and secondary schools and colleges nearly doubled between 2018 and 2022, with about 1,300 hate crimes reported in 2022, up from 700 in 2018. Black students were the most frequent reported victims, followed by L.G.B.T.Q. and Jewish students, according to F.B.I. statistics. The increase in reporting may be linked to the national movement following the murder of George Floyd in 2020, which called attention to racism in American life, including schools, as well as a powerful backlash to that movement. The Israel-Gaza war in 2023 has also led to widespread reports of increased bias incidents in schools against Jewish, Arab, and Muslim students.
