"Fatal Heatwave: Mexico's Howler Monkeys Plunge from Trees"

At least 138 howler monkeys have died in Mexico's Tabasco state due to dehydration and heatstroke amid scorching temperatures and drought. The severe heat wave, with temperatures reaching as high as 117 degrees Fahrenheit, has also led to 26 human deaths from heat-related causes and water shortages in various parts of the country. Conservationists and veterinarians are making efforts to save the monkeys, which are suffering from severe dehydration, with some falling from trees and dying within minutes. The extreme weather is compounding existing threats to the monkeys, including habitat loss from forest fires and logging, and is also affecting other wildlife, such as reptiles and birds.
