Ontario’s apocalyptic skies as wildfire season intensifies and evacuations spread

A heat-driven surge has pushed more than 100 wildfires across northwestern Ontario, with many fires out of control and evacuations underway in Armstrong, Whitesand First Nation, and Collins First Nation. Smoke blankets southern Ontario and parts of the U.S., sending air quality to some of the worst levels in the world. Climate experts say a heat dome and NW winds are driving smoky air toward the ground, and officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity and heed evacuation orders as the situation develops.
