Deadly Disease Surges in Ukraine and Sudan, Outpacing Covid and AIDS.

Tuberculosis is now killing more people worldwide than COVID-19 or AIDS, with around 4,400 people dying every day, including 700 children. Conflict zones, including Ukraine and Sudan, have a high number of cases, making it difficult to track down people with the disease and diagnose new sufferers. The economic impact of COVID-19 and conflicts are having a huge impact on efforts to treat people with TB and diagnose new cases. The situation in Sudan for TB sufferers is probably like a ticking bomb due to the ongoing fighting and collapse of most of the health system. Efforts are being made to fast-track access to TB services and mobilize financing to ramp up the TB response and advance research and innovation.
