Songmi Park, who was left behind in North Korea by her mother as a child, risked her life to escape and reunite with her mother in South Korea. Her journey involved crossing the Yalu River into China, hiding and moving at night, and paying a broker £17,000 ($20,400) for help. Songmi's memories offer a rare insight into life inside North Korea, where watching foreign films and TV programmes can lead to imprisonment or execution. Now settled in South Korea, Songmi advocates for the reunification of the two Koreas and teaches students about the North.
