UN Warns of Escalating Violence in Sudan, Reaching Disturbing Levels of Evil

The United Nations has warned that violence against civilians in Sudan is "verging on pure evil" after nearly seven months of war, leaving over half the population in need of humanitarian aid. Reports of sexual and gender-based violence, forced disappearances, arbitrary detentions, and grave violations of human and children's rights continue to emerge. The conflict has resulted in the displacement of nearly six million people, with over 25 million in need of humanitarian assistance. Health facilities in conflict areas are largely out of service, leading to outbreaks of diseases and high levels of malnutrition. The UN is targeting 12 million people for aid and has appealed for $2.6 billion.
