Water Crisis in Gaza: The Impact of Armed Conflict on Freshwater Protection

More than 1.7 million people in Gaza have been forced from their homes since October 7, with overcrowded shelters lacking access to clean water and basic hygiene facilities. The UN estimates that there are now almost 900,000 internally displaced people in Gaza, contributing to the spread of diseases. The distribution of fuel to water and sanitation facilities is insufficient, leaving tens of thousands of people with limited access to safe water. The crisis is rapidly deteriorating into a humanitarian catastrophe, with CARE International calling for an immediate ceasefire and safe, sustained access for humanitarian workers to assist those in need.
