The Biden administration has allowed immigrants from El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Nepal living in the US on temporary status to renew their work permits for 18 months, preserving protections for more than 330,000 people from the four countries. The decision reverses a Trump-era directive that sought to revoke the humanitarian protections. However, the protections remain limited to immigrants who arrived in the country years ago, disappointing some who had hoped for a fresh designation to include more-recent arrivals.
