Ukrainian Pro-Russia MP Assassinated in Moscow

Illia Kyva, a former Ukrainian lawmaker who had settled in Russia and was sentenced in absentia for treason in Ukraine, was shot and killed in a village near Moscow. Russian investigators stated that Mr. Kyva died on the spot after being shot by an unknown individual, and a criminal inquiry into the killing has been opened. While Russian investigators made no mention of Ukrainian involvement, a Ukrainian intelligence official claimed that Mr. Kyva was killed as part of a special operation orchestrated by the State Security Service of Ukraine. Mr. Kyva was a controversial figure who switched sides from being an anti-Russian Ukrainian nationalist to someone who supported Russia's control over Ukraine. The targeting of prominent Russian and pro-Russian figures has been a part of the broader Ukrainian war effort, with several other similar assassinations taking place.
