Uncovering Russia's Exploitation of Mercenaries in Africa and Beyond

Russia's Wagner Group, a private army run by President Putin's associate Yevgeny Prigozhin, is funding its operations in Ukraine by exploiting Africa's resources. The group has been accused of gross human rights atrocities in the Central African Republic (CAR) and is effectively helping to run the country through violence and disinformation. Wagner has a 25-year mining concession for the Ndassima gold mine in CAR and operates the facility under the cover of a Prigozhin-linked front company. The group is also plundering CAR's virgin redwood forests.
