Brazil Bolsters Military Presence on Northern Border Amid Venezuela-Guyana Dispute

Brazil has increased its military presence along its northern border in response to the territorial dispute between its neighbors, Guyana and Venezuela. The dispute revolves around the oil-rich region of Esequiba, which constitutes a significant portion of Guyana's land mass. Venezuela's claims on the region have been reignited in recent years due to Guyana's oil and gas discoveries. On December 3, Venezuelans will vote in a referendum on the rights to the Esequiba, despite Guyana's request to call it off. The International Court of Justice is expected to rule on the matter soon.
