BRICS Currency Absent from August Summit Agenda, Confirms South African Official

The upcoming BRICS summit in South Africa will not discuss the creation of a common currency for the bloc, according to South Africa's senior BRICS diplomat. However, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa will continue to promote trading and settlement in local currencies as an alternative to the U.S. dollar. The idea of a BRICS currency has been previously suggested by some leaders, but it is not currently on the agenda. The shift away from the dollar is driven by the desire to challenge Western dominance in global finance and find alternatives amid geopolitical tensions and sanctions.
