China Warns Philippines Over Taiwan Congratulations

China's Foreign Ministry summoned the Philippine ambassador and criticized President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for congratulating the winner of Taiwan's presidential election, Lai Ching-te, stating that the remarks violated political commitments and interfered in China's internal affairs. China strongly opposes any statements that confer legitimacy on Taiwan's government, as it considers Taiwan its own territory. This comes after U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken also congratulated Lai, prompting China to criticize the message for sending a wrong signal to "Taiwan independence" separatist forces.
