China's Military Drills Near Taiwan Aim to Crush Separatist Arrogance

China stated that its recent military drills near Taiwan were aimed at combating the "arrogance" of separatist forces seeking independence. Taiwan has expressed concerns about the increased risk of accidental clashes due to the heightened frequency of China's military activities. China's Taiwan Affairs Office spokesperson urged people in Taiwan to oppose independence and work with China to maintain peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait. The frontrunner to be Taiwan's next president, William Lai, accused China of attempting to annex Taiwan, while emphasizing his commitment to maintaining the status quo and offering talks with Beijing. Taiwan's defence ministry reported further Chinese military movements, including 16 aircraft entering its air defense identification zone, and announced the launch of domestically made submarines to bolster its defenses against China.
