Lula: Putin's Arrest Unlikely at 2024 Brazil G20 Meeting

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva stated that Russian President Vladimir Putin would not be arrested if he attends the Group of 20 (G20) meeting in Rio de Janeiro next year. Lula, who plans to attend a BRICS bloc meeting in Russia before the Rio meeting, expressed confidence that Putin could visit Brazil without facing arrest. The International Criminal Court (ICC) had issued an arrest warrant against Putin in March, accusing him of war crimes related to the deportation of Ukrainian children, which Russia denies. Brazil, as a signatory to the Rome Statute, did not immediately comment on the matter.
