Sudan Violence Prompts International Military Response and Evacuation Plans

The US military is preparing options to evacuate its embassy in Sudan amid fighting that has killed hundreds, mainly in Khartoum and the west of the country. The US has deployed some forces into theatre to provide as many options as possible if called on to do something. The airport in Khartoum is caught in the fighting, making it difficult for nations to evacuate embassy staff. The UN has been trying to extract staff from “very dangerous” zones in Sudan to move them to safer locations. The conflict could affect countries across the region, with up to 20,000 people already fleeing to neighbouring Chad.
