Tensions escalate as Serbia and Kosovo investigate deadly clashes in the north

Serbia's President Aleksandar Vucic has pledged to investigate the recent gunbattle at a monastery in northern Kosovo, denying any government involvement and condemning the killing of a Kosovo Albanian police officer. Vucic also stated that Serbia will investigate the source of the weapons seized by Kosovo police after the incident. He accused Kosovo police of executing one of the gunmen and denied allegations that Belgrade incited the violence. Vucic criticized Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti for stalling a compromise solution and refusing to form an Association of Serb Municipalities, which would secure more autonomy for Kosovo Serbs. The incident has raised concerns about the stability of Kosovo, which declared independence in 2008.
